FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural, altered state of consciousness induced by focused attention which allows communication with and responsiveness from the subconscious mind. It permits the exploration of underlying motivations, triggers, past events or experiences, not accessible consciously, that may be associated with a current problem. While the conscious mind is not disassociated or deactivated (i.e. you are not asleep, unconscious or unaware), hypnosis can circumvent interference by the analytical nature of the conscious mind, allowing us to give effect to your desire to bring about the change needed to achieve your goals.
Will I lose control of what I say or do during hypnosis?
You always remain in full control during hypnosis. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, which means that you must be willing to be hypnotized in order for hypnosis to occur, and you cannot be made to say or do anything during hypnosis that you would not say or do normally. Nor can hypnosis make you go against your moral principles. Hypnosis is merely a natural, altered state of consciousness induced by focused attention. It is not a truth serum. You do not lose your faculties, your ability to choose your words or actions, or your sense of privacy.
Misconceptions about hypnosis arise as a result of stage hypnosis, which often gives the appearance that the hypnotist has mind control over the hypnotized person. It should be noted that stage hypnotists screen their volunteers to choose persons who are particularly receptive to hypnosis, cooperative and often display traits of exhibitionism.
As a professional hypnotherapist, it is my goal to help you to achieve your highest intention, while maintaining the utmost respect for your dignity and right to self-determination.
will i lose consciousness or have amnesia?
Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness, not a loss of consciousness. In fact, hypnosis is characterized by a level of increased awareness. You are fully aware of your surroundings and what is occurring during a hypnotic session.
Most people remember everything that happens during a hypnosis session. There is a very small percentage of people that are able to achieve such a deep level of hypnosis that they experience spontaneous amnesia. While this is a very rare occurrence (i.e. only 2% of people experience such deep levels of hypnosis), I offer suggestions to you during a session to ensure that you remember everything that occurs.
can i get stuck in HYPNOSIS?
It is not possible to get stuck in hypnosis. Hypnosis is a natural state of consciousness which can be easily reversed, for example, by simply opening your eyes.
can hypnosis cause psychological harm?
Hypnosis is a non-intrusive, non-invasive technique that has no side effects. It is completely safe and cannot cause psychological harm.
will hypnosis force me to deal with repressed memories of trauma?
The state of hypnosis, in and of itself, does not cause repressed memories of trauma to resurface. Hypnosis can be used to revisit such memories but they will only resurface if it is our intention to bring them up. It should be stressed that the subconscious mind has a built in mechanism that only permits you to experience what you are ready to experience. So, even if it is our intention to uncover traumatic memories, you will not experience them if you are not ready to experience them.
Is hypnosis anti-religious?
Hypnosis has no religious connotations. It is neither anti-religious nor pro-religious. In fact, many religious groups today accept the ethical use of hypnosis to help people. For example, the Catholic Church has issued statements dispelling the notion that hypnosis is morally forbidden and has approved its proper and ethical use.
how does it feel to be in hypnosis?
Many people equate being in hypnosis to a sense of relaxation, similar to meditation, a light nap or vivid day dreaming. Some people may also experience decreased awareness of the body and a sensation of the mind become detached from the body.
what is past life regression?
Past life regression is a technique used, often through hypnosis, to regress you to memories from a past life experience or incarnation. It involves guiding you through various scenes of a past life including the final death scene using a series of questions and suggestions.
I am merely a facilitator of the session and have no control over whether you experience a past life or not, or the actual memories that you experience. Your inner being (higher self or higher consciousness) always guides you to the most appropriate past life which is relevant to your current life experience.
how to prepare for a session?
The best way to prepare for a session is to maintain an open mind, and limited or no expectations.
